The Dirty Wellies is a fast-rising traditional Irish band based in the Chicago area. The band formed in 2013
when County Mayo natives Regina Garrity,
Margaret Murphy O'Callaghan, and Bernadette Murphy, joined with a guitarist friend to hold open sessions at
a popular pub in the Chicago
suburb of Brookfield.
Over Bernadette left the country for a year and Jim Aman joined as the whistler. Bernadette returned,
expanding the band, which had been
joined by Vincent O'Callaghan
and, later, Frank Gleeson.
The band's focus is traditional Irish and Scottish music. Modern tunes and twists
have come into the repertoire along the way, but the heart
and soul of the band remains trad. Their style and love of traditional tunes
and songs has carried the band to festivals, concerts,
and a variety of private and public performances.
